About – A Glimpse Inside Fairytales and Mud Puddles

Fairytales and Mud Puddles

Hi!

Welcome to Fairytales and Mud Puddles. My name is Megan and this is the part of my blog where I get to tell you a little bit about myself and how Fairytales and Mud Puddles came to be.

Growing up I was probably considered somewhat of a tomboy. You surely would have been hard pressed to find something compelling enough to get me off the basketball court . The scars on my knees from sliding on the softball field were proudly worn as badges of honor.

Fast-forward a few years and my first child was born. She was this beautiful strong little girl who wore princess dresses more than she wore regular clothes. Singing, dancing and make believe, this was her world. She was my introduction to fariytales and I thought I would never look back. Two more amazing girls later and my days continued to be filled with tiaras and tea parties.

Fairytale World

However, the next time my husband and I showed up at the hospital to welcome the newest member of our family, we got the surprise of our lives. “It’s a boy!!”, came the words from the doctor who had just delivered our fourth child. “A what??!!” We were sure there must have been a mistake. We don’t do boys. There wasn’t and he was!

You might see where I am gong with this and assume this was where my world of fairytales came to a screeching halt. You would be wrong. This little guy liked purses and high heels just as much as his sisters. And so our fairytale journey continued. Until the day I was walking into preschool with my now two-year-old son. It had rained the night before and the sidewalk was littered with puddles. He was holding my hand just like he did everyday, but then he paused. Before him lay one of the large puddles of mud and leaves. Instead of neatly stepping around it as we had done countless times before, he proudly announced, “Momma, I’m going to walk through the water with my new shoes.” Somehow he knew that this was a daring feat he was about to perform and to do it with new shoes would add unparalleled excitement. Never before had anyone made such bold statement. Never before would anyone have considered ruining a brand new pair of shoes. When I was finally able to wrap my head around the situation and the shock had somewhat subsided, I did what I assume every mom does faced with this scenario. I carefully let go of this hand and said, “okay”. The smile that stretched across his face as his new shoes hit the puddle and drops of mud sprayed up onto his cheeks and sprinkled his hair was worth five pairs of new shoes. It was a moment of pure joy and this my friends was my introduction to mud puddles!!

Mud puddles!!

We haven’t looked back since. We live quite nicely co-habitating in the worlds of fairytales and mud puddles and I wouldn’t have it any other way! We even added another boy to the mix so it turns out the first one wasn’t a fluke after all!

All Five of Them!

Now, if you were doing your math correctly you would have calculated that I have 5 kids. Yes 5! All of whom are eight years old and younger. I haven’t earned any parenting certifications and there are no medals of achievement adorning my mantle. What I do have is almost nine years of experience being a mom to a large family. I think I have picked up a few tricks along the way and I would love to share them with you all. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy writing it. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by.

It’s a great day to be a parent!

Megan
